Well it is officially summer which means tans, beaches, and sleeping in! Summer also means the rains are coming and they have already started. So what is there to do on rainy days here in southwest Florida, because the beach is kind of out of the options. Let’s explore what you can do this summer when it’s raining! Netflix is ALWAYS an option, snuggle up with your favorite blanket and go ahead rewatch the Office for the tenth time, we won’t judge you. Cook a really good meal, cooking can be extremely fun and relaxing, so why not spend the day cooking or baking your favorite meal or some cookies! You can find some awesome recipes on our Pinterest account to get some ideas. Game day/night with your friends, invite your friends over and play your favorite game such as “What do you Meme?” or even a favorite childhood game! If you’re into the rain and don’t mind getting rained on, you can always go on a nature walk. Six Mile Cypress is a great boardwalk trail that is fairly protected by over-hanging trees. Go to the movies. Go finally see that new movie that came out that you’ve be yearning to go watch! We recommend going to see “Life of the Party!” It’s the perfect time to not feel bad about being productive. Rainy days can be really fun and there is so much more to do than just these five suggestions. Stay dry (or not) and we’ll see you on the sunny side!
It’s that time of the semester again, the time of long nights, stress, and sometimes (most definitely) tears. Don’t worry, take a deep breath, and take some of these tips to be as relaxed as you can be for one of the most stressful weeks. First things first, create a playlist of all your favorite songs to study to. Studying is hard, but if you have your favorite songs playing, you will be able to lift your spirits, just by listening! Eat your favorite dessert. Ice cream, cake, gelato, whatever it may be, eat it because it’s hard to be negative and stressed when eating a cookie ‘n’ cream waffle cone. Go workout – but in a fun way! Don’t just go to the gym and run on the treadmill or lift weights, go to a trampoline park, like Skyzone. Go jump out your stress and have fun while doing it! Go outside to study. Research has shown that the more time you spend outside while studying, you’re more likely to retain that information. Plus, The Reef has plenty of good outside study spots for you to retain and relax. And finally, take a bubble bath. Take some time out of studying to relax in the bath. Get some bath bombs, essential oils, and some candles, play some relaxing music and chill in the hot tub for 15 minutes. Finals week can be stressful but with these tips, it can be a less stressful week!
Finally, we are over the hump of this semester and springing into summer. The last month of spring semester doesn’t have to be bogged down by finals and cramming. There are plenty of activities to freshen up your schedule around the community. A few FGCU events being held this month include a wing eating contest on the library lawn Monday April, 2nd at 11:30 am, “Cheers to Senior Year” where you can enjoy an evening of root beer floats and slider sampling at 6 pm on April 4th at the North Lake pavilion.
